I’m researching guitars for my 10 year old ds.  He is a southpaw, so it is a bit harder to find a good used one.  People say Fender or Yamaha.  I don’t know.  I found one on Craigslist, but if I go play it I won’t know if it is good or not.  Anyone out there have any idea if the Costco brand guitars are ok to use for awhile???  Hmmmm. At least I have another month or so to figure it out.

  1. Alright, this whole scenario depends on how interested you think he is.

Music is an amazing thing, and you want to buy him quality. However, you dont want to spend money for him to never play it. If your going to buy him a guitar, I’d suggest a used Yamaha FG-400. They are discontinued, so it might be hard to find a used lefty, but it honestly is the sturdiest and long lasting guitar I’ve ever played. Mine is 20 yrs old and still going strong. I actually have a review of one on my blog, feel free to check it out. You probably could get one anywhere from $10-$150, and it will last a lot longer than a Costco guitar, which will be between $10-$80. Even if he doesnt end up playing it, it will last long enough for someone else in the family to use it. Anyways, good luck and if you have any other questions check out the article on my blog on the Yamaha FG-400.
